If the question was simply Can a man and a woman be just friends without falling in love? instead of Can a man and a woman be just friends without having sex? I think I would have liked this movie a lot better. I really, really wish Hollywood would get that romantic relationships don't have to revolve around sex.
On the plus side, though, this movie has a great soundtrack - one that introduced Harry Connick Jr. to the world.

a man and woman cannot be just friends without someone liking someone at some point. that's not the same as sex.
