I'm not going to re-list them all, but here are the top movies in each genre:
Animation - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Fantasy - The Wizard of Oz
Gangster - The Godfather
Science Fiction - 2001: A Space Odyssey
Western - The Searchers
Sports - Raging Bull
Mystery - Vertigo
Romantic Comedy - City Lights
Courtroom Drama - To Kill a Mockingbird
Epic - Lawrence of Arabia

personally, i would pick beauty and the beast (#7) or lion king (#4) for animation, but i can't disagree with the choice of snow white, seeing as that's where it all began.
i'd lean towards lotr (fotr - #2) for fantasy, but that gets tricky since it's three movies. so i guess i'd agree with oz
gangster - definitely
sci fi - oh my gosh, i hated 2001. the top movie should have been star wars (#2), no question.
western - yeah, ok
sports - raging bull wasn't about boxing. it was about the boxing guy, who was a jerk. it should have been rocky (#2) or pride of the yankees (#3). and league of their own should have made the list.
vertigo was good, but i would have picked the usual suspects (#10) or rear window (#3)
we all know i would have picked while you were sleeping for romantic comedy. it didn't even make the list :(
at least they got courtroom drama right.
and lawrence of arabia for epic? only if best epic meant longest and boringest. if one wants to make the best epic, one needs to include characters and an interesting story. it should have been gwtw (#4)
i haven't seen all those movies, but i'll agree with you anyway
